Sense of Humour is a very cunning phrase because no one can have the same sense. It isn’t like the other five senses which are same to almost every human being and the word almost in the previous sentence wasn’t unintentional. I mean I know people who have dog noses and elephant ears, which well is beyond my scope of understanding as half of them ‘sniff’ too much into others’ lives and the other half have a tendency to ‘hear’ stuff they aren’t supposed to. An eagle eye however would be a beneficial development which to my knowledge nobody I know has developed yet.
Back to the motion, sense of humour has degraded in the last 10 years and the prime reason that I can think of is due to the Stand-Up Comedy Shows that make millions laugh like hell. That is the point actually, the jokes presented are so senseless that somebody rolling over their belly after hearing them would add fourfold to the dumb meter, if there was one. Actually I wish there was one, then people would realise what I mean but that too would be like sense of humour, not same to all humans.
I agree all of us don’t get the Sheldon Cooper jokes and maybe similarly, I don’t get the Comedy Circus jokes but I am certain that Sheldon Cooper jokes aren’t bullshit and the latter are. Reasons for which I will illustrate in the following paragraph.
Firstly, the Sheldon Cooper jokes or any other good joke are healthy and clean not a cheap double-meaning phrase which was ‘accidentally’ used on a family television show. Secondly, they are not completely meaningless while the latter are and finally, they are witty and clever and not just a person speaking something in a weird tone and people blasting their jaws over it.
Have you heard of the ‘famous’ Oggy and the Cockroaches? Would it surprise you if I tell you that it is originally a silent show just like Tom and Jerry. You used to laugh on Tom and Jerry, didn’t you? Then why do you need that ‘Sunny Deol and Shahrukh Khan’ copy voiceover on the video? It doesn’t add to the comedy, if you ask me. It kinda degrades it to the level that the ‘jokes’ aren’t even jokes. They are senseless blubbering in a weird voice copy that makes almost everyone, even my 6-year-old cousin laugh and what is coming out of it? Four little words of great importance (if you include the ‘of’)
‘Poor Sense of Humour’
When you come to think of it, Wit can be easily related to intelligence, as is portrayed in the famous stories of Tenali Raman. Do you remember this character? The episodes of Tenali Raman were one of the most witty things I’ve ever watched and experienced. These are a few examples where sense of humour is actually good; no dirty jokes, no double meanings – Just plain-old comedy.
Has it happened to you, that a random guy, shouts out something random in the class and everybody laughs, while you are there thinking about only one question that is bouncing like an unstable electron in your brain – Why DID everybody laugh? Was there anything to laugh about this? Was this a joke? That means you are a survivor of the sane generation.
The above didn’t happen to you ever? :O I guess, you need to cut out ‘Comedy Circus’ from your life for good, things may become a little logical then.
So, after everybody laughed you tried to say something witty, hoping people will laugh? They didn’t laugh, did they?
Don’t worry, happens to the best of us.
What? You weren’t thinking when you said it and you ‘just’ said something random and they laughed? Wow, you are just like them. That is even better. 😛
So, I don’t think the level of our sense of humour is even visible now. It’s just gone. *poof* So, let us pledge to recover it and bring back the witty Indian personality back into us. Ciao!
