Since the last few days, I’m trying my hands on Vector Designing on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I think I’m getting a hang of it but why am I leaving Raster images aside for a while, well here is the reason. Over the last, say 3-4 years the internet and the world has cut down on the flashy side of design.
What Am I Talking About?
The days of Flashy, Glittery and Sparky web design are coming to an end. That is one of the reasons why Facebook rolled out so many changes, Google, Microsoft and many other companies. The same situation exists in the field of Graphics Designing, designs with too much colors are losing against minimal designs and thus, the days of Raster images are coming to an end. Raster images and raster designing can be too flashy at times but Vector, even though not bright is still beautiful.
Minimal is NOT ‘Dull’, it is ‘Simply Beautiful’.
The first thing upon hearing the word ‘Minimal’ before ‘Designing’ gives many people an image of Dull. The fact is, it isn’t. Minimal is just making something simple and not too crowded and flashy. Vector and Minimal art is not dull, it is the use of the basic colors instead of derived shades.
For example, a raster image (or rather the type I am used to designing) is too flashy, has many blending effects, filters and is ‘crowded’ with the use of features whereas a vector will have only the necessary parts, effects and colors. I am not against Raster, I love it. It was how I started designing and I’ll continue to use it. What I’m trying to do is expand my horizons and learn vectors too.
Everything is changing, minimal looks better and this is the reason that drives me to learn vector and minimal designing. Here are a few pieces I made yesterday, when I started out with Vector art. Click on the Image to view it.
