Why do we love travelling? Locations, people and many other factors urge us to travel. But one more underlying reason that is responsible for our travelling is handicrafts and artisans. People who work day and night, mostly without any aid from machines, to make beautiful yet scarce and rare pieces which range from daily use keychains or necklaces to the adornment of our shelves.
But, the culture is dying. With the advent of technology and machinery, more and more artisans are refraining from their art and becoming part of the hip tech generation. Imagine a world without handicrafts and little rare objects you’d buy in a jiffy for a souvenir. If you can’t imagine that then this is not meant for you, I guess, and you should just stop reading and close the tab.
If you could imagine the grim future where one art has to die for another to start then you will be delighted to hear about GlobeIn. A venture started by a few like minded and brilliant people. GlobeIn basically is a marketplace for artisans and people who buy from them. With GlobeIn you can buy handicrafts from all around the world from your doorstep. This approach is well thought and very futuristic yet it plainly does not let the culture of artisans die. As they put it in their mission,
That desire (to make a difference in lives of local artisans) drives us to be a different kind of online marketplace. One with a focus on creating opportunities for all artisans. One that is not limited by technology but expanded by it. One that is motivated not by what is easy for us, but by what will be most meaningful for them. One that values not only our artisans crafts, but also their passion, their history and their culture.
This clearly illustrates the point they are trying to make. An opportunity (for artisans as well as buyers) which is not limited by technology rather expanded by it. I call GlobeIn, the Fiverr for Artisans.
With that, I think you should watch the video below and if it interests you, you may check their website at www.GlobeIn.com and maybe buy a little something too. 🙂
